Each year, we’re so lucky to receive gifts from Radio City’s Cash for Kids Mission Christmas appeal…and Christmas 2021 was no exception.
All of our families come to Centre 56 because they have experienced domestic abuse or are in crisis. Each family has their own story. We received enough presents for almost 60 children aged 2 to 12 years, meaning they had something under the tree waiting for them on Christmas morning.
One family to benefit had recently moved to the UK to seek asylum and were referred to us for support. They spoke little English and had no money and were frightened of how they would survive with their two young daughters.
The parents did not want to accept help for themselves but were desperate to support their daughters. We provided food and vouchers to feed the family, and gave clothes for the young girls.
We sourced a translator so we could communicate and managed to support him to register with a local GP. We registered the girls for school and provided uniforms and shoes.
At Christmas, we provided a special food hamper and also gave toys donated by the wonderful team at Mission Christmas. The parents were so grateful and thanks to Mission Christmas, were able to give their children a Christmas they deserved. This family has been touched by the kindness and generosity of all those who donated toys and supported Mission Christmas in 2021. On behalf of this family and the many others we support – THANK YOU!
