Rathbone Foundation’s £5,000 donation will support fun activities at Centre 56!

We are absolutely overjoyed that the Rathbone Foundation has donated £5,000 to go towards our Holiday Playscheme!

At Centre 56, we aim to provide a safe place for vulnerable children to play all year round. Our playschemes are designed to enable socially isolated children to enjoy things that other children do.

Our Holiday Playscheme provides structured and creative activities such as outdoor play, arts and crafts, music and games as well as trips to local places of interest. All children also receive a hot meal or packed lunch when they take part.

Combined with funding we’ve received from Merseyside Play Action Council, this Rathbone Foundation donation will support us to cover nearly a full year of our holiday activities and trips.

Due to the national lockdown, many places that are great for children to learn, have fun and spend time together were temporarily closed – including visits to museums or zoos and group trips on ferries to see the sights.

Claire Essame, Service Manager at Centre 56, said: “Normally we would plan a summer trip with all families who use our services, providing a safe, relaxed and fun experience for children, parents and carers. While we’ve postponed this for this year, it has always been a wonderful way for families to make special shared memories together.

“So we’re really looking forward to being able to resume trips once it is safe to. These will be planned according to any social distancing rules in place and will follow any Government guidance at the time. But for now, we’re excited to organise fun and safe activities such as arts and games for the children to enjoy, and be able to provide food during these.

“Thank you so much to the team at Rathbone Foundation for inviting us to apply for this funding which will support this.”
