Gender Equality Policy Statement

[Back to Equal Opportunities page]

Liverpool Women's Aid recognises that women experience discrimination and disadvantage. Therefore as an employer and provider of service we will promote equality for all female employees and users of it's services.

Liverpool Women's Aid recognises that there are important differences between women and particular attention will be given to the specific needs of Black women, women from other ethnic minority groups, disabled women, lesbians, carers, older women and single parents. Liverpool Women's Aid will seek to eradicate policies, practices and procedures that discriminate against women employees and service users.

Changes in the law affecting the labour market may have an adverse effect on female employees. This may create greater insecurity and a reduction in hours, pay, pensions, holidays and maternity leave. Liverpool Women's Aid will therefore take all appropriate measures to protect women.

Liverpool Women's Aid view sexual harassment as a serious issue and will not tolerate it in relation to employment and service delivery and any such incidents will be addressed fully and effectively in accordance with Liverpool Women's Aid procedure and relevant Sex Discrimination Legislation and European Codes.

Liverpool Women's Aid acknowledges that the threat and use of social and domestic violence against women and girls can limit choices and aspirations. The effect can be to reduce women and girls full participation in everyday life. Therefore accepting its role as an employer and provider of services, Liverpool Women's Aid will promote public awareness and encourage programmes designed to reduce it's incidence.

Liverpool Women's Aid is committed to complying with the statutory obligations set by the following legislation:

Equal Pay Act 1970, Sex Discrimination Act 1975/1986, and Article 119 of the Treaty of Rome & European Community legislation & Directives
